PREMISES LIABILITY / SLIP AND FALL / IMPROPER SECURITY

Owners and occupiers of property amay be legally responsible in Missouri for accidents resulting in injuries occurring on that property. This law covers a wide variety of circumstances: a slip and fall on a snowy sidewalk will be covered by the same law as an injury to a child playing at a fast-food restaurant, or harm to an assaulted woman when a store or nursing home provides inadequate security.

Defective conditions, inadequate maintenance, and inadequate security can all result in premises liability. The key to legal liability focuses upon the victims and how the law characterizes them. Missouri law distinguishes between three classes of people who come onto another's property: invitees, licensees, and trespassers.

Owners and occupiers of property have different legal responsibilities here: an owner has less obligation to a trespasser than to an invitee. If you or a loved one has been injured while on someone else's property, then your harm may be legally compensable under Missouri law. Please contact our firm for a free legal consultation.
