TRUCK ACCIDENTS / 18-WHEELER CRASHES

Driver fatigue, load weight, inadequate maintenance, actions by drivers giving insufficient response time (zipping in front of a big rig, fast braking, etc.), environmental factors (rain, snow, etc.), and driver inexperience are all factors that can contribute to commercial truck accidents. Unfortunately, accidents involving these large vehicles usually result in serious injuries and major property damage.

Eighteen-wheelers often carry loads in excess of 80,000 pounds leaving a standard automobile extremely vulnerable in a crash. Truck cargo may add additional risk: flammable or hazardous materials can mean flash fires, chemical burns, respiratory injuries, and the like. Jackknifing and turning accidents are common.

Despite national efforts over the past decade, which have successfully reduced the number of large truck accidents, truck accidents still occur with great regularity. If the driver of the truck is legally negligent, then both the driver and the trucking company as well as the owner of the cargo (and other parties) may be responsible for injuries to persons and property resulting from the wreck. If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident with an 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer truck, or other large truck, then you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.

Successful resolution of your claim will involve not only establishing your damages, but also establishing the driver's negligence and identifying all other companies or individuals that may share responsibility for the accident. Sometimes, even retailers or governmental agencies are partly responsible for truck accident damages. Monetary compensation in these cases may include compensation for wrongful death, disfigurement, emotional distress, pain and suffering, lost wages, and lost future earning capacity.

If you or a loved one has been the victim of a commercial truck crash, please contact our firm for a free initial consultation.
